Nagpur diabetologist wins international award
Dr Sharad Pendsey received the Diabetes International Charity Award
Dr Sharad Pendsey received the Diabetes International Charity Award, which carries prize money of 5,000 euros and a memento, at Berlin.
Germany’s new Vice-President John Sing Hammer and local filmstar Joachim Fuchsberger presented the award to Pendsey at a function recently, a release said here today.
Hammer has instituted the award in the memory of his late son Thomas, who suffered from type 1 diabetes.
Pendsey, in his acceptance speech, said he will continue to do charity work with the help of his team at Dream Trust, founded by him.
Pendsey is the first Indian to receive this award, said the release issued by Dream Trust.
The trust is involved in distributing free insulin injections, syringes, monitoring strips and also providing healthcare to over 750 poor diabetic children in and around Nagpur, the release added.
