National award winning filmmaker Rajeev Patil passes away


Sudden death of an artist due to cardiac arrest shakes film fraternity

rajeevMumbai: A national award winning Marathi filmmaker Rajeev Patil died of cardiac arrest today in Mumbai. He was 40 years old. His wife Suvarna Patil, a professional designer survives after him.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar informed on Twitter about sad demise of the film maker.

Rajiv preferred to make movies shading light on social issues. He made several serious yet entertaining movies which created his own audience.

He has proved his talent through movies like ‘Sawarkhed – Ek Gaav’, ‘ Sanai Chaughade’, ‘Blind Game’, ‘Oxygen’, ‘Jogwa’, ‘Pangira’, ’72 Maiil – Ek Pravaas’ which were very well received by viewers. ‘Pangira’ and ‘Jogwa’ fetched him a National Award too.

His recent release ’72 Maiil – Ek Pravaas’ was appreciated by viewers as well as critics. He had started his career with theater by assisting the direction of plays like ‘Premachi Goshta’ and ‘Hello Inspector’.  He also directed ‘out of the path’ play like ‘Priyanka ani Don Chor’. His upcoming movie ‘Vanshvel’ is all set for the release.

Rajiv’s sudden and sad demise has shaken the Marathi film and theater industry.
