Ratnagiri: A National Sand Art competition is organized on Ganpatipule Beach for three to five days in the month of January with the aim of eco friendly development on the beaches in Konkan, informed International Award winner Sand Artist Sudarshan Patnaik.
The competition organized in association with Jindal Company will be part of Ganpatipule festival to be held here. Local artists will be given individual entries for the same.
J. S. W Foundation had organized an exhibition of the international award winning artist Sudarshan Patnaik on the beach of Ganpatipule. Patnaik started sculpting his ‘Rani Laxmibai’ sand-art at 6.30 am on Saturday morning with the theme of women empowerment. This art took around 12 hours of hard work to complete, Patnaik informed.
He further said that he has visited 50 countries for sand art. But he never knew that there are beaches in Maharashtra apart from Juhu Chowpati. These beaches in Konkan are a treasure of nature and their beauty is very different. But these places need to be equipped with eco friendly developments and more facilities. The Sand Art Festival aims to do the same.
The most important beaches in Rantnagiri are adopted by private institutes and companies for cleaning. According to Rajiv Jadhav, a District Officer, cleaning is a primary step; many more concepts are under planning to be executed. The Ganpatipule Festival to be held between December and January is part of these concepts. A three day festival will present various folk arts. Other programs along with classical music show will also be performed, he said.
