Obama seeks deeper engagement with Vietnam
Nay Pyi Taw, Nov 13 (AP) President Barack Obama says he sees opportunities for deeper engagement and cooperation with Vietnam despite the difficult history between the two nations.
Obama cited trade, security and human rights as areas for cooperation as he prepared to meet today with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on the sidelines of regional summits being held in Myanmar. Obama says it’s important for countries to follow international law in resolving disputes.
He says the US continues to work with Vietnam to recover the remains of American soldiers killed during the Vietnam War.
He says Vietnam’s improved economic standing is a testament to the strength of its people and reforms recently put in place.
Obama says the meeting with the prime minister will give both sides opportunities to cooperate on business and investment.
