Dubai: Over 300 Indian companies, showcasing the country’s excellence in food and beverage industry, are participating in one of the world’s biggest exhibition in the food and hospitality sector being organized here.
The Indian pavilion at Gulfood, inaugurated by Consul General of India in Dubai Anurag Bhushan, has been coordinated by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority and the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
Spanning an area of 1500 sq m, it was one of the biggest pavilions in the exhibition, Indian consulate in Dubai said in a statement.
The Indian pavilion promoted rice– Basmati and non-Basmati, herbs, spices, processed food products, poultry, meat, dairy products, confectionery, juices, chocolates, and ready to eat foodstuff.
India’s Ambassador to the UAE, TP Seetharam, inaugurated the Buyer-Seller Meet (BSM) and networking event organised by the Cashew Export Promotion Council on February 24.
He highlighted the robust commercial partnership between India and the UAE and stressed the role of Dubai as a gateway to the GCC – MENA, CIS and African countries.
He also encouraged exporters to consider producing value-added cashew products like sweets, biscuits etc to penetrate newer markets.
The BSM was attended by nearly 60 exporters and prominent importers.
India’s total exports of agricultural products to the UAE stood at USD 2 billion for the year 2012-13 while the total exports stood at USD 37.2 billion in the same period.
