Pakistan Air ForceIslamabad: At least 33 militants were killed today when Pakistani air force jets pounded their hideouts in the restive North Waziristan tribal region where the military has launched a major offensive against the Taliban.

The jets bombed the hideouts of rebels in Datta Khel area near border of Afghanistan.

A security official said that 33 militants were killed and nine of their hideouts were also wiped out in the targeted strikes.

The strikes in the North Waziristan came a day after 20 militants were killed in similar attacks.

The military in June launched the Operation ‘Zarb-i-Azb’ against the Taliban in North Waziristan bordering Afghanistan to flush out the militant group’s strongholds.

The operation was launched following a deadly attack on Karachi international airport which killed 37 people.

Four months into the operation, the military said it has cleared more than 80 per cent of the territory in North Waziristan including its regional headquarters of Miramshah and killed at least 1,100 militants so far.

Around 6,000 families have migrated to safe places.

According to officials, the operation will continue till the extremists are completely wiped out.
