Paying bed’s charges increased by 4.5 times
It is saddening that those who would take the ‘Paying Beds’ service in the suburbs, would not be given the free treatment provided by the Municipal Corporation
Mumbai: It has been decided that the Municipal Corporation started three hospitals in the suburbs would provide ‘Paying Beds’ service with the charge of Rs 900 for the non-air conditioned and Rs 1200 per day for the air-conditioned rooms.
But at present the hospitals like KEM, Sion, Nair, the well equipped ones, and charge Rs 200 for the paying beds on daily basis. Comparing these rates with hospitals in suburbs, the suburb based hospitals are charging 4.5 times more than these well equipped hospitals.
It is saddening that those who would take the ‘Paying Beds’ service in the suburbs, would not be given the free treatment provided by the Municipal Corporation. In addition one has to bear the double charges for operation along with medicines and blood tests.
Though the poor is being treated for free in Municipal Corporation run hospitals, the hospitals are turning privatized.
The newly started Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar hospital at Kandivali, Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Hospital at Jogeshwari and Koopar hospital at Vile Parle, started by the civic administration are provided the ‘Paying beds’ facility.
In these three hospitals, Rs 900 is charged for a single bed in non conditioned room and Rs 1200 is charged for the air-conditioned.
The administration has put the proposal for sanction in front of the Health committee of the municipal corporation.
When the well equipped hospitals like KEM, Sion hospital and Nair hospital are charging Rs 200 for the paying bed, the question raises that how come the ill equipped, newly started hospitals charge 4.5 times more than these hospitals?
By charging 4.5 times more it is discussed at the Municipal Corporation that instead of patients’ care, the Municipal Corporation has started a business.
Those who use paying beds facility are charged twice to the actual charge for the operations in the super specialty hospitals. In addition to that the patients are not provided the medicines for free. Thus it is said that the patients who use paying beds facility in these three hospitals will be charged twice than the municipal corporation’s charge at other hospitals.
