Poets dominate this year’s Sahitya Akademi awards

Vachnaryachi rojnishiNew Delhi: Noted Marathi writer Satish Kalasekar has been honored with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award for his ‘Vachnaryachi Rojnishi’ while noted poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar has been bestowed the award for ‘Lava’, a Urdu collection of poems.

This year eight books of poetry, four of essays, three of novels, two each of short stories and travelogues, one each of autobiography, memoirs and play have won the Sahitya Akademi award.

The awards were recommended by distinguished Jury members from 22 Indian languages.

Mridula Garg, veteran Hindi novelist along with noted Panjabi poet Manmohan, R N Joe D’ Cruz, famous Tamil poet and others are also honored with Akademi awards.

Kalasekar has been bestowed the award for his book of essay named ‘Vachnaryachi Rojnishi’ while Javed Akhtar has been awarded for his Urdu collection of poems ‘Lava’.
