Projects such as Jaitapur are needed for Konkan’s development: Pawar
Fourth Global Konkan Festival inaugurated
Navi Mumbai: Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar stressed the need of the Jaitapur Nuclear project for the cheap and environmental friendly electricity supply as the ongoing oppose for the nuclear project is weakened.
He was talking at the Fourth Golbal Konkan Festival organized by Konkan Bhumi Pratishthan.
Pawar said that coal based electricity generation project was not feasible as well as affordable for Konkan.
He said that such coal based power project might create troubles for fruit farming and environment. Thus Pawar stressed that a firm stand was needed to support Jaitapur nuclear project.
Ganesh Naik, District in-charge minister, MP Sanjiv Naik, Mayor Sagar Naik, MLA Bhai Jagtap, Uday Sawant, Sandip Naik were present at the inauguration program.
He said, “The mindset of the people of Konkan is changing and it was pro growth oriented.”
He said that Maharashtra stood first in the fruit cultivation in the country. It was possible as the state government had implemented Employment Guarantee Scheme in the horticulture sector.
Pawar further said that in current situation the scheme was stopped thus he asked the state government to make an arrangement for the funds for the cultivation of fruit farms and it should restart the scheme by reserving the funds in the annual budget to give pace for the scheme in Konkan.
The central government would help the state government at its best for the fruit farming.
He said, “Konkan needs best quality Jetties for the fishery and tourism industry. The central government would support the necessary funds but the land is needed to build the jetty. Thus the state government should try for it at the first stage.”
Pawar said that many small states like Sikkim were developed on the basis of tourism. Pawar said that Konkan had that edge for growth. Thus he stressed that the necessary infrastructural development for the tourists should be made available in Konkan.
Pawar said, “If the roads and jetties are developed in Konkan, the tourism industry would flourish in Konkan and it would surely develop the area,” he said.
