PWD engineer caught accepting Rs 1 lakh as bribe
Nashik: An executive engineer of the state public works department was caught red-handed while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh from a complainant, Anti-Corruption Bureau said.
The accused, Sanjay Dagadu Dashpute, had allegedly demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from a contractor for issuing a release order of Rs 33 lakh, deposited by the latter in a bank as guarantee for the road construction work taken up by him in Trimbakeshwar tehsil of Nashik district, an ACB release said.
After the completion of the road work in February, the complainant asked the PWD to refund his deposit amount and to also clear his final bill pertaining to the supervision and maintenance of roads, for which the accused demanded bribe.
Later, the deal was settled at Rs one lakh.
The complainant then approached the ACB which laid a trap and caught Dashpute red-handed while accepting the bribe last evening at his residence here, the release said.
Subsequently, the accused was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, ACB official said.
A search was also conducted at his residence late last night, the release added.
