Raigad under security cover, locals, tourists harassed
Narendra Modi’s visit to Shiv Prathisthan’s program at Raigad fort
Mahad: BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi visited Raigad fort, known as a witness of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s glorious history and brave deeds, for a program.
Modi’s visit has raised speculations among the tourists and the historical Raigad fort is barred for the tourists because of security concerns. Around 3000 policemen have been deployed in the area. The tourists are angry over the ‘no entry’ to the tourists on the fort.
Modi’s visit has affected the local villagers too! The villagers of Konjhar, Punadewadi, Pachad, etc. had to face the security hurdles. The Saturday bus going to Konjhar from Mahad was canceled because of Modi’s security and it raised the anger among the regular passengers.
The program was organized by Shiv Pratishtan from Sangali. Shiv Pratishthan chief Sambhaji Bhide Guruji has been organizing ‘Dharatirth Yatra’ from past 17 years at various forts. This year the fair was organized from Mahangad of Mangaon to Raigad, the then capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji.
Though Modi came in a helicopter here, the security was tightened in the region. The program was scheduled at 11 AM. Police had put up Nakabandi.
A strict checking was taking place at Raigad rope-way’s lower and upper stations. A special helipad was designed for Modi’s helicopter to land in Pachad.
