Railway Minister to unveil vision to GMs, DRMs on Wednesday
New Delhi: Aiming at improving efficiency and functioning of the national transporter, Railway Minister Sadanand Gowda will meet all General Managers (GM), Divisional Railway Managers (DRM) and other senior officials tomorrow to finalise the way forward.
Ahead of Rail Budget, Gowda will spell out his priorities and NDA government’s vision in his address to all heads of departments including chiefs of production units and PSUs.
Gowda has made it clear that safety and security of passengers are his top priority and at the same time amenities at rail premises should also be improved.
Since railways is facing cash crunch, Gowda will also seek reduction in expenditure and prioritisation of projects.
“There is a huge backlog of projects. Some projects are going on for many years. So it has to be reviewed for prioritisation,” Gowda has said.
Cleanliness, which has become the buzz word for the new government, is also stated to be on the agenda at Gowda’s first major interaction with top officials of railways across the country.
While seeking speed in decision making process, Gowda is also expected to seek innovative ideas in operation.
Railways is looking for fund infusion through FDI and PPP in major projects including high speed and port connectivity besides tax sops in the budget keeping financial health in mind.
An interim budget has already been presented by the former Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge in February factoring in the UPA government vision.
The full Rail Budget 2014-15 to be presented by Gowda in July is expected to reflect the NDA’s policy and vision, which is different from the UPA. PTI
