Record making journey of Konkan Railway in 2013
Konkan Railway has created many records during 2013 to be proud of
Ratnagiri: Be it the number of trains or increase in revenue generation in comparison to the last year; Konkan Railway has created records during 2013 to be proud of. In this year, Shatabdi Express ran on this route for the very first time in the history of Konkan Railway. It is now undoubtedly one of the most popular and preferred route for passengers. Hence, the Indian Railway is now surveying possibilities to run double decker trains for Goa via Konkan.
The route also closely connects the states like Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu to Maharashtra which makes it popular among the tourists for Southern states. The Konkan Railway is now running for more than two and a half decade and the numbers of long distance trains are increasing every year. The process of two-laning and electrification of the route is speeding too. Konkan Railway itself has initiated the task of survey for electrification process.
Konkan Railway has created a record to run maximum special trains in a year. Apart from the special trains during festivals like Ganeshotsav, Navratri, Diwali and Christmas, Konkan Railway also ran ATT-Ratnagiri daily special train during a festival of Holi and Ganeshotsav.
Also, some special trains on the routes of LTT-Sawantwadi, Mumbai-Pernem, CST-Madgaon made the journey more comfortable for passengers. Konkan Railway ran 844 special trains during 2013; the number was mere 537 in 2012.
