Redevelopment of heritage buildings to be handed over to BMC
Nagpur: The Maharashtra government is considering to hand over the issue of redevelopment of heritage buildings in Mumbai to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) by January 31, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today told the State Legislative Council here.
The CM was reply to a calling attention motion raised by Narendra Patil of the Congress on old dwellings in Mumbai and their redevelopment.
The government is making special guidelines for the redevelopment of heritage buildings including old dwellings, he said.
A total of 948 buildings have been identified by the heritage department in Mumbai for this purpose.
We will take fast decisions in this regard and the Afjalpurkar Committee has been formed to issue guidelines in this regard, Fadnavis said.
Also, the government is looking to transfer this matter to BMC by January end next year. They will redevelop buildings in such a way that heritage status of those buildings will be protected, he said.
