‘Sahyadri Home Stay’ in Konkan to promote Ecotourism
‘Sahyadri Home Stay’ eco-friendly tourism project for nature conservation and livelihood generation
Chiplun: A complete rural Konkan will be connected to ‘Sahyadri Home Stay’ project to create awareness about tourism in rural Konkan and to create livelihood for rural people through tourism. This concept is presented by Bhau Katdare, President of Sahyadri Nisargmitra Association and it will be executed all over the Konkan.
Konkan is blessed with the coastline of 720 km. Hill ranges of Eastern Ghats passes through Konkan itself. The concept of ‘Sahyadri Home Stay’ is an amalgamation of nature, coastal line and biodiversity.
Sahyadri Nisargmitra is working for environment conservation in Konkan for last 29 years which helped to conceive this concept with a moral objective to create livelihood for locals and to promote tourism.
There is ample scope for ecotourism in Konkan being its beautiful beaches most popular among tourists. Sahyadri Nisargmitra had successfully conducted ecotourism through Tortoise Conservation campaign in villages like Velas, Mochewadi and Maral.
Locals will be trained to inform tourists about biodiversity and its conservation. Under this project, tourist would be staying at someone’s home in rural Konkan instead of hotel rooms. The idea is to make them understand and experience the rural life, food, culture and the rituals of rural Konkan, informed Katdare.
A guideline has been made for the arrangements of Hygiene, clean water, best food and security for tourists. People owning home in rural areas of Konkan can be part of this project. Training for biodiversity knowledge, guidance for nature conservation, treatment to guests, budget management will be given to hosts. Also, a booklet will be printed on tour management.
The contact numbers and addresses of hosts will be published on website so that tourists willing to go for ‘home stay’ will be able to contact them directly. The membership fee is only Rs 100 to register in this project. It will be associated with Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation in future.
Residents of rural Konkan who are willing to participate in this project may contact on 02355-253030, appealed Bhau Katdare.
