Saswad is all set to host 87th All India Marathi Literary Conference (Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan)
Pune: Saswad is all set to host 87th All India Marathi Literary Conference (Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan). The construction work of main mandap, literature exhibition centre, food arrangement centre etc is almost complete.
The event will be held on 3rd, 4th and 5th January 2014 at Saswad which is birth place of renowned Marathi writer P K Atre. Veteran Poet F M Shinde is an elected president of this prestigious literary conference and Vijay Kolte will act as a Welcoming President of the event. Around 25 thousand dignitaries and veteran are invited for this extravaganza, whereas five thousand invites are sent to local residents. Nearly 1.25-1.50 lakh literature lovers are expected to visit the location during this conference.
The main Mandap built for the event is 40 thousand sq ft which can accommodate almost eight thousand people. The stage will be decorated with colorful flowers and attractive sofas. Front side of the stage will be VIP area and a dedicated Press area is also arranged.
Granthnagari (literature exhibition centre) is built on huge 40 thousand sq ft land which can fit around 300 book stalls. So far150 stalls are registered. This centre is insured for Rs Eight lakh as precaution.
The programs will be held at Acharya Atre hall, Nagar Parishad hall and Daulat Chitramandir along with the main mandap. A separate media room equipped with internet, computers, fax etc is set at Rashtrawadi Bhavan.
43 committees are assigned different tasks for accurate management of the event. Food is arranged for 11 thousand people at venue.
As security measures 800 personnel including 200 police, 200 homeguards, volunteers, NSS, NCC students will be alert at the venue. Apart from this CCTV cameras will be installed as well.
Accommodation is arranged at the hotels and schools in Saswad and Jejuri for around1200-1700 people. 263 residents of Saswad will be the host to literature writers. Poets and Poetesses will be provided accommodation on Malhargad. Around 14 acre plot is attributed for parking.

Saswad has numerous places to visit in and around the area. Narayanpur, Jejuri, Ketkawale, Morgaon, Bhuleshwar, the tomb of Kanifnath, saint Sopandev, Peshwe Balaji Vishwanath, Sangameshwar Temple, Bhiwadi the birthplace of Umaji Naik, Khanwadi the birthplace of Mahatma Phule, Honaji Bala’s house, Sardar Godaji Jagtap’s Palace; apart from this 52 small palaces, Jadhav Gadi etc are worth visiting.
How to reach:
PMPML and ST buses from Swargate, Shivajinagar, Hadapsar are available at every 15 minutes to reach Saswad.
