Senior citizens to get 50% concession in operation fees
Helping hand to senior citizens in New Year
Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to give special gift to the senior citizens. The civic body has come up with a plan of giving 50% concession in the operation fees at the Municipal Corporation run hospitals, Dr. Suhasini Nagada, BMC’s Medical Education Director informed.
The state government has initiated various welfare schemes for the senior citizens. But most of the senior citizens do not get its benefit. Many a times, they have to face age related problems. They even can’t afford grand spending on their health in their second innings.
Considering these all factors, the civic body has planned to start a special Outstation Patient Department (OPD) at KEM Hospital, Nair Hospital and Lokmanya Tilak hospital, Sion from the New Year.
Dr. Kamakshi Bhate of the KEM hospital will be in-charge of this department in the hospital. One day in a week will be dedicated for the senior citizens.
Specialist doctors from the fields of Orthopedic, Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Psychiatry, etc. will be available on this day.
In addition, 14 medical colleges in the state are also going to start special ‘Geriatric’ wards for senior citizens along with the civic body runs hospitals.
Talking with Prahaar, Dr. Pravin Shingare, Director, Medical Education and Research, Maharashtra, said, “From the new year five beds in each department will be reserved for senior citizens in the hospitals,” he said.
