Kankavli: Youth leader Nitesh Rane has organized a grand marathon competition to commemorate the republic day here. It was Narayan Rane’s wish that there should be marathon competitions to boost the enthusiasm among the youth.
Thus on Rane’s message the marathon is taking place on 26th January in Sindhudurg, Nitesh Rane informed.
The competition is divided into two categories i.e. 21 kilometers and 7 kilometers respectively. The winner of the 21 km marathon competition will be given the prize money of Rs 1 lakh and winner of 7 km competition will be given the prize money of Rs 50,000.
Actors Arjun Rampal and Swapnil Joshi will be the chief guests at the event. The competition will be started in the hands of Industry Minister Narayan Rane and in presence of MP Dr. Nilesh Rane.

Both 7 km and 21 km competitions would start from SSPM. The 7 km marathon would end to Prahaar bhavan. The 21 km marathon would go on from Prahaar bhavan and would end on Mumbai-Goa highway.
The first three winners would be given the cash prizes. The first winner would be given Rs 1 lakh, second winner would be given Rs 65 thousand and third winner would be given Rs 50 thousand.
The 7 km marathon is open for all and at least 5000 participants are expected to run in this category. The first winner would be given Rs 50 thousand as prize money and second winner will be given Rs 40 thousand as a prize. This third winner will be felicitated with Rs 25 thousand as prize money.
Addressing the press, Nitesh Rane said, “Many initiatives are taken to boost the tourism business of the district and to bring Sindhudurg’s name on national and international maps as a tourist place. Sindhudurg marathon competition is one of such initiatives,” he said.
Rane further said that the Standard Charterd, a leading institute that organizes marathon competitions at Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and across the nation had been given the lone responsibility to organize the marathon competition.
