Six under-trials booked for assaulting police personnel
Six under-trials at the Nashik Central Jail have been booked for attacking police personnel on duty and attempting to snatch their service revolver at a court
Nashik: Six under-trials at the Nashik Central Jail, who were charged under Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) last year, have been booked for attacking police personnel on duty and attempting to snatch their service revolver at a court here, police said today.
The accused – Samir Nasir Pathan, Sunil Anarthe, Ganesh Wagh, Nagesh Sonawane, Nitin Kale and Sonal Bhadange – were brought to the court for regular proceedings by a team of officers from Sarkarwada police station yesterday when a scuffle broke out bewteen Anarthe and sub-inspector Sachin Sawant and two others personnel, inspector Hemant Somvanshi said.
“Anarthe started talking on a mobile phone, provided by his friend. When constable Somnath Gumbade asked Anarthe to put off the call and sub-inspector Sawant tried to take away the phone from him, Anarthe, Pathan and others attacked Sawant and also tried to snatch his service revolver,” added Somvanshi.
Later, on intervention by inspector Somvanshi the situation was brought under control.
A case was registered against the six jail inmates and their relatives, who had come to meet them in court, under relevant sections of the IPC.
According to police, the gang of the six accused, known as the ‘Tipper gang’, have cases of murder, dacoity and looting registered against them at different police stations in Nashik.
