Both the sisters participated in the Mayor Mini Marathon organized by the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corpoaration and stood first and second!
The sister duo is from Sai Valivali village in Badalapur who has shown their talent at Athletics and Kho-Kho competitions at national level.
The family is surviving on the prize money won in competitions by these sisters. Pooja has won the first prize money of Rs 10,000 and Priyanka has won the second prize money of Rs 7500.
Their father is unemployed and the mother is housewife. Pooja is a 11th standard college student of Shivabhakt Vidyamandir and Priyanka is in 9th.
Their parents’ support along with the motivation, efforts and guidance from their teachers Pandharinath Mhaske and Narendra Mangale are the key factors behind their success, they said.
The prize money is helping the duo in their educational career as well. When asked what they would do about the prize money won at KDMC Mayor’s Mini Marathon, they told this reporter that they would buy some rice for the family.
A Helping hand is needed
The duo has won the silver and bronze medals at National Athletics Competitions.
The duo also succeeded in the School games and Cross Country Competition held at Ranchi.
Priyanka has been selected for the Open Kho-Kho competition to be held at Goa on 15th February. If the state government’s sports department extend a helping hand to the sister duo, they could concentrate more on the sports.
As the talents are rare and it has to be nourished with efforts, a helping hand is needed for excellence.
