Start two laning of Konkan Railway route immediately, Dr Rane
Considering safety on this route in future, please instruct railway department to immediately undertake two laning work here, requested Dr Rane to Railway Minister Kharge through letter
Ratnagiri: While the inquiry on recent Konkan Railway derailment near Nagothane is instructed by Railway Board, the mishap has highlighted urgency to undertake Konkan railway route’s two laning work. Considering safety on this route in future, please instruct railway department to immediately undertake two laning work here, requested MP Dr Nilesh Rane to Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge through letter.
Konkan Railway serves as the most safe and affordable route of transport for residents as well as national-international tourists. People residing in Konkan are largely dependent on this mode of transport. Not only has this but districts like Thane, Raigadh, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg where economies are largely reliant on tourism, are benefited by Konkan railway at large. But frequent railway accidents here have raised questions over the safety of passengers, Dr Rane mentioned in the letter.
Two laning is the only option to free this route from frequent mishaps. Passengers are facing problems due to delay in this much demanded expansion on this route. As this work is already approved by railway board, please instruct concerned department to commence it immediately, the letter reads.
Dr Rane has sent another letter with similar context to the Managing Director of Railways B P Tayal.
