Sugar cane price hike protest on halt till November 24
Raghunath Patil, a farmers’ activist had demanded the implementation of recommendations of Rangarajan committee
Shetty said that Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana had asked the chief minister to declare the sugar cane prices earlier. Thus they had organized a protest march in Karad. But chief minister Prithviraj Chavan assured an on table dialogue with the agitators for the crop prices. Thus he said that the protest had been halted.
Shetty led Swabhimani Shetkari sanghatana had strongly demanded the first installment of Rs 3000 to the state government.
Meanwhile, Raghunath Patil, farmers’ activist had a discussion on the same issue with the chief minister. He had asked Chavan for the implementation of the recommendations of the C Rangrajan committee. According to Patil, if the recommendations of the Rangrajan committee implemented, there would be no need for the agitations to farmers on sugarcane price hikes.
Meanwhile, chief minister’s house in Karad was under the police protection. Local fire brigade team along with the ambulance was also deployed to avoid any possible tragedy.
