Sweets with silver foiling banned ahead of festive seasons
Senior officials in the municipal corporation are directed to take immediate action
Mumbai: The Mumbai Municipal Corporation has banned the selling of the sweets with silver foiling as a precaution ahead of the Diwali festival. Municipal Commissioner Sunil Prabhu recently declared the civic body’s decision.
Prabhu said that the silver foiling is used to make the sweets look attractive but it was injurious to human body.
The mayor has sent a letter to the Mumbai police commissioner Satyapal Singh regarding the decision and the civic body’s senior officials have been directed to take immediate action.
Prabhu also said that Manisha Mhaiskar, additional commissioner, Health department has also been directed to take immediate action and the work has been actively carried out.
Meanwhile, the police commissioner has welcomed the decision. Talking with Prahaar, Singh said, “The immediate action on such foiled sweets would surely save Mumbaikars’ health,” he said.
