There has been a tremendous change in the field of books and the trend of reading books, Gupta said here yesterday at the launch of ‘Books on Wheels’, a new concept launched by the Thane Marathi Grantha Sangrahalaya (MGS).

“I have an intention to start ‘Garden Libraries’ in the near future for the benefit of the citizens of the city,” he said.

On the occasion, MGS president M Y Gokhale said taking into account the growing need of the citizens of the city, the air-conditioned mobile library van will move from place to place and cater to the needs of the citizens.

The library will have a stock of more than 10,000 books and the readers can borrow books and even sit and read them in the van itself.

To begin with, a total of 25 locations have been selected which the mobile library will visit everyday.

On the occasion, Thane District Shiv Sena chief Ekanth Shinde and Deputy Mayor Mukesh Mokashi said that libraries should be given all needed support for its growth.
