This summer, Ratnagiri becomes ultimate destination for tourists
More than half of MTDC’s 175 cottages in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are already booked. 124 cottages in Ganpatipule, 30 at Tarkarli and 20 cottages in Harishareshwar are booked till the end of June.
Ratnagiri: Summer vacation trips become more special with blue serene oceans and shadows beneath coconut trees accompanying tourists. Beautiful spot like Ratnagiri offers more than this. Buffalo ride and typical Konkani food has become USP and attracting thousands of tourists, from across the country, to this picturesque tourist destination during this summer.
This season, around 175 cottages of MTDC and 800 hotels in the district have full booking as number of tourists are increasing every year. Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts connects to people through tourism which has become major factor of this sector’s development. From Ratnagiri’s Hapus mangos and Sindhudurg’s cashews to temples and beaches, tourist attractions here popularized gradually and now this place has become much desirable destination for tourists.
Particular places like Murud, Alibaug, Harihareshwar in Raigadh; Ganpatipule, Pawas, Hedvi, Dervan in Ratnagiri and Tarkarli, Malvan, Kunkeshwar in Sindhudurg are tourist hotspots, hence developed much compared to other places. MTDC and hotels in these districts are all set to welcome guests during this vacation season. More than half of MTDC’s 175 cottages in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are already booked. 124 cottages in Ganpatipule, 30 at Tarkarli and 20 cottages in Harishareshwar are booked till the end of June.
These places generate revenues worth crores of rupees during summer. MTDC’s Ganpatipule resort has earned 4.65 crore, Tarkarli 1.75 crore and Harihareshwar around one crore till date.
Tourism is directly increasing employment in the region. Various tourist plans like Agri tourism, eco tourism, Jungle safari and rural Konkan tourism are becoming popular in this region and different government and private schemes are contributing most in tourism development here. Meanwhile Agri tourism and especially buffalo ride is gaining quick popularity.
Apart from this every hotel is arranges numbers of activities to attract and engage tourists. There are around 800 hotels in the district and surprisingly all are full, informed Sunil Desai, Secretary of Ratnagiri District Hotel Association. Tourists also prefer comparatively smaller scale hotels with permit room which are 3500 in numbers. Earning of every hotel has already reached around Rs eight lacks during this season. Most of the tourists have preferred CP packages which includes room rents and breakfast, he said.
