The disaster control cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation sprung into action immediately after getting a message about the five-storey Vishnu Kala building being in bad shape, and evacuated the premises by shifting over 65 families living there.

The building, which is around six-year old, houses as many as 66 tenements and 11 shops and has three wings.

The TMC officials were verifying the details of the building, located in Ganesh Nagar locality of Diva.

According to officials, the affected families have been shifted to transit camps for the time being.

The authorities are in the process of pulling down the dangerous building to avoid any eventuality.

The move comes close on the heels of a building collapse in Thane’s Kalwa town on Monday in which lives of several people were saved as they vacated the premises minutes before it came crashing down.
