Train fare may rise again!

MVRC has suggested to add the surcharge on small distance train fares

AP I IND INDIA RAILWAY BUDGETMumbai: After the recent hike in first class train’s monthly passes ahead of increasing inflation, now the small distance train fares may hike soon.

The railway board is also thinking on to add the surcharge on small distance trains soon and the sources said that the decision would come in action soon.

The regular passengers have seen the hike in fare prices on a regular basis throughout the year. The new hike will be a one more in the list. At present the fare for a 10 km distance journey is out of surcharge. But the Mumbai Railway Development Corporation (MRVC) has suggested adding the surcharge in the small distance journey fares.

It is reported that the suggestions have been given to raise the first and second class train fares up to Rs 10 and Rs 5. If the suggested hike comes into action, the monthly fare passes of the first class will be increased by Rs 70 to Rs 80 and of the second class by Rs 15 to Rs 20.

Our sources said that the MRVC observed that the small distance journeys were barred from the surcharge. The earlier decision could not raise the revenue. Hence the body suggested adding surcharge on these journey fares.

The railway board has not taken any such decision yet. However it is expected that the decision would come after Union Railway minister Mallikarjun Kharage’s upcoming Mumbai visit.
