‘Tsunami Island’ in Devbaug emerges as a new tourist destination
The Tsunami has gifted an island to Devbaug which has now become a major tourist attraction here
Malvan: Few years back a disastrous calamity of Tsunami ruthlessly washed off the families and homes of many. Not only few towns but number of countries suffered huge losses. However, the village of Devbaug is exception to this. The Tsunami has gifted this village an island which has now become a major tourist attraction here.
The disastrous calamity created a sand island near the confluence of Arabian Sea and Karli loch which is named ‘Tsunami Island’. The place has now become a major attraction for tourists visiting Sindhudurg from across the world.
Currently the island welcomes around 25 Thousand tourists daily. Budding response to this place seems to be snatching the limelight of popular destinations in Konkan like Malvan and Tarkarli.
The water sport activities like boating, parasailing, Jet skiing, Bumper ride, Banana ride etc makes this place more interesting to visitors. Local residents are running temporary restaurants for tourists. Konkani style ‘Macchaans’ are also installed here using the wood of coconut tree. Tourists are transported to the island from a wharf near Devbaug Mahapurush temple.
