Two forest guards who were on patrolling duty in Sahapur near here were assaulted by thieves engaged in wood cutting, police said today
Thane: Two forest guards who were on patrolling duty in Sahapur near here were assaulted by thieves engaged in wood cutting, police said today.

The incident took place late yesterday afternoon when Baban Bamble and Ramhari Tambade were patrolling in Velonda forests of Sahapur along with three other guards, Assistant Police Inspector Bapusaheb Shinde said.

When the guards heard the sound of trees being cut, they searched and found three persons were chopping wood. The guards caught the thieves and where taking them to Sahapur forest division office for further probe. The trio suddenly pounced on Bamble and Tambade, who were holding them, and mercilessly beat them up, he said.

After the attack, the trio escaped from the spot, the police said.

Police have registered a case and launched a a manhunt for the jungle thieves.
