Two government officials held for accepting bribe
Thane (Maha): Two employees of the Registrar of Co-operative Societies including an deputy registrar have been arrested for allegedly accepting bribe from an advocate, ACB officials said today.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (ACB) Sanjay Mohite said that an advocate had filed an appeal with the office of the Deputy Registrar in connection with the members of a housing society.
The complainant wanted the copy of the order issued on the appeal by the deputy registrar for which he approached the office, Mohite said.
At the office, the peon — Milind More demanded Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000 for Deputy Registrar Santosh Bidwai to make the order available.
The advocate approached the ACB. Following this, a trap was laid on Friday and the duo was caught red handed while accepting the bribe amount in the office, he added.
They have been apprehended and a case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 has been registered in this connection, police said, adding investigations are underway.
