Two held for abusing woman, attempt to extort money
Nashik: Two youths were arrested after they allegedly tried to extort money as contribution for Ganesh festival from a beauty parlour owner here and then attempted to molest her and ransacked her premises when she refused to pay, police said today.
Four men yesterday went to a beauty parlour at Kapote market in Old Nashik locality and asked its owner Hemlata Pasha Sheikh for Rs 751 as contribution for the festival, Bhadrakali police station in-charge Madhukar Kad said.
However, when the woman offered to donate Rs 151, they allegedly ransacked the parlour and also abused her, he said.
Sheikh later lodged a complaint against the four youth – Dhiraj Uttam Sonawane, Amol Uttam Sonawane, Santosh Mairal and Lakhan.
Police arrested Dhiraj and Amol and have launched a search for the two others who are absconding, he said.
Offences have been registered against them under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 384 (extortion), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 427 (mischief causing damage), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 505 and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC, the police officer said.
People have been appealed to informed police if anyone tries to forcibly collect festival contribution, Kad added.
