Two schemes for artistes, research projects: Govt
New Delhi, Dec 1 (PTI) Government is implementing two schemes to provide financial assistance to artistes in the field of performing arts and research projects in various areas of art and culture.
Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma told Lok Sabha that under the ‘Scholarships to young artists in different cultural fields’, 400 scholarships are given every year to young artistes in the age group of 18-25 years for advance training in the field of Indian classical music, dance, theatre, visual art, folk and traditional and indigenous art.
Under the ‘Scheme for Award of Fellowship to outstanding persons in the field of culture’, 200 junior fellowships in the age of 25 to 40 years and 200 senior fellowships in the age group of above 40 years are given every year to outstanding persons in the field of art and culture, he said during Question Hour.
Junior fellows are given Rs 10,000 per month and senior fellows are given Rs 20,000 per month for a period of two years.
The Minister said under the scheme of scholarship, each selected artiste is given scholarship at Rs 5,000 per month for a period of two years.
For both the schemes online applications are invited every year and meritorious candidates are selected on the basis of their performance and interview by Expert Committees constituted by the Ministry, he said.
