Ulhasnagar transport employees to be in dark this Diwali?
Two hundred employees of Corporation’s transport service are helpless due to shut down
Ulhasnagar: Two hundred employees of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation’s transport service are helpless due to shut down of services since last 2 days. Their Diwali looks in dark this year. If Corporation, officers and contractors fail to take appropriate decision in the meeting on Thursday, employee union might get aggressive over the issue.
Rs 2 hike in a ticket rate demanded by transport contractor is delayed for the decision of General Assembly. Due to this a contractor Kestrel Infrastructure is bearing losses of Rs 50 thousand every day. Overburdened with losses, the company had to stop the services for not having funds to refill the diesel in buses.
In this regards, the meeting was called for officers in municipal corporation, administration and contractor but Mayor Asha Idnani and Commissioner Balaji Khatgaonkar remained absent at the venue making it postpone to Thursday. Municipal Corporation has not yet sent any notice about this to any officer. The Head of transport department Deepak Chimankare said officers will be informed on telephone about the postponed meeting.
Meanwhile, 200 employees are awaiting the meeting on Thursday to decide their fate. They have not received salary for last two months and the festival of Diwali is near making them anxious, said Vice President of employee union Arun Aashan.
If no decision comes from the meeting on Thursday, Union would demand to pay their salaries from the deposit paid by contractor to the corporation, said Aashan.
