Various programs organized to mark Republic Day in Gulf
A number of activities ranging from blood donation drives to literary and cultural shows have been lined up for Indians across the Gulf to celebrate India’s 65th Republic Day
India’s consulate here is organizing a blood donation camp on this occasion to encourage young members of the community to donate blood. The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi is organizing an evening of Indian classical music blended with Western rhythm.
In Saudi Arabia, a musical and literary event will be organized by Jeddah-based International Indian School. Actor Tom Alter will perform in a Urdu solo play on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
India’s mission in Qatar has planned a series of events to celebrate Republic Day on Sunday. “Let us also celebrate the close relations and time-tested friendship between India and Qatar (on the occasion),” said Sanjiv Arora, Indian envoy in Qatar.
The Indian embassy in Kuwait city is also planning some events for the Republic Day. In a statement, Indian ambassador in Kuwait Sunil Jain said the Gulf region is a part of India’s extended neighborhood.
“India has vital stakes in the security and stability of the entire Gulf and the Middle East region which hosts around 7 million Indians. The region is the source of roughly two-third of India’s crude oil requirements and is the largest trading region for us accounting for over 26 percent of our global trade,” Jain said.
