Mumbai: Filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia, who is exploring the commercial genre for first time with Saif Ali Khan-starrer ‘Bullett Raja’, says he will change the face of commercial cinema by making it aesthetically better.
“I am attempting a masala film for the first time. Masala is a derogatory word. It’s for the first time that I am making a film of this scale. I would change the face of commercial cinema and give it a better value. It will be aesthetically better,” Tigmanshu said.
He had directed his first feature film ‘Haasil’ in 2003. Tigmanshu’s ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ (2012) had won wide critical acclaim, including National Film Award for Best Feature Film.
The Saif Ali Khan-starrer is set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh-based mafia and also the underworld.
This is the story of a common man, Raja Mishra, who transforms into a dreaded gangster of the Hindi heartland.
Having grown up in Allahabad, Tigmanshu’s films have always been deeply rooted in the interiors of India.
“I can’t pick any one politician or celebrity by whom we have been inspired for this film. I don’t want to name them. While I was growing up in UP there was a lot of colorful stories of gangsters and we have tried to use them. The film is against the authority and system with which people are fed up,” he added.
The action-packed entertainer starring Sonakshi Sinha, Jimmy Shergill, Vidyut Jamwal, Chunky Pandey, Gulshan Grover, Ravi Kishen, besides Saif, is set to release on November 29.
