Woman jumps off building with her two children in Pakistan From M Zulqernain
Lahore: A 30-year-old woman jumped off the third floor of her flat along with her two minor children after having a quarrel with her husband over financial matters in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan’s Punjab province.
As a result two-month-old son died on the spot while Abida and her three-year-old daughter suffered serious injuries and were shifted to the Jinnah Hospital here.
Their condition is stated to be critical.
“Both the mother and daughter had multiple fractures. Abida also has head injury,” Dr Shaukat Ali of the Jinnah Hospital said.
Police have registered an FIR against Abida on charges of murder and suicide on complaint of her husband Muhammad Islam.
Islam told police that he along with his family had been living in an one-room flat at the third storey in Faisal Town for the last couple of years.
“I work at a hotel. My meagre income is not sufficient to meet the family expenses. I often had quarrel with my wife over the financial issues. I asked her to work to contribute to the income but she was not interested,” Islam said.
“On Monday, when I returned to work she asked me to bring something for dinner from the market as nothing was at home to cook. On this a quarrel ensued. After that I left for the market,” Islam said.
Disturbed Abida jumped off the flat along with her children in the absence of Islam.
“I saw a woman and a child about to jump from the balcony of a flat on third storey,” said Amjad Ali, a resident of Faisal Town flats.
“Before I raised an alarm they fell on the ground. I rushed to the spot. Some other area people also gathered there and we shifted them to hospital,” Ali said.
